Love Won

Lilli's lip was busted up the other night, akin to something that would've come out of a heavy-weight ring. Tender skin against a tooth at just the right angle to cause trauma and swelling. Accusations were made against a rowdy younger brother, and even though he said he was sorry, and gave her a hug, he still got a spanking for hitting her in the face. However, the next morning, a guilty conscience won out and the truth was told. He hadn't done it on purpose, it was revealed, and she'd let him take a punishment he didn't deserve. Filled with remorse, it was her turn to make apologies and have some consequences of her own for letting him take the fall. I woke up this Good Friday...

Fool’s Gold

I noticed it while I was cleaning off our partner's desk. On Kevin's side was, what for all intents and purposes, a chunk of rock. It was old looking, kind of the color of charcoal, save for the glints of gold sparkling from every crack and crevice. I smiled, picking it up, as he had run across it in a box of his childhood stuff from his mom's. I didn't realize he'd saved it, and I sat down, turning it over and over in the light. I totally would've picked it up as a kid, knowing FOR SURE that I'd found real treasure. I probably would've combed the area of its discovery for more, a real gold strike, certainly, right in the middle of North Central Texas. I likely would've hidden it...

Redeemed

I've been quiet for a while, and that's been on purpose. For one, I needed a break from social media and the screaming voices of political madness so I could clear my head, and two, it was an incredibly busy week. We had the little man's 3rd birthday party, a Toy Story celebration, complete with Woody, Buzz, and the whole gang. He loved it, and so did we. But, as a total surprise to my daughter, Emmie, we had a proposal and engagement party, as well. Take a moment and enjoy the proposal.     Sweet, isn't it? He planned this out for months. It took place at the site of their first date, his mother and I were there with the kids, and he arranged for her best friend from Florida to...

Mimmie’s Heart: Letters to Brody #4

Happy 3rd Birthday, darling boy! It's a very stormy morning, as I write this, ushering in St. Patrick's Day, the day you were born. It's also in direct contrast to your mood, most of the time, although over the last couple of months you've begun to try your hand at the "terrible twos." Frankly, you're not that good at it, honey, so let's just leave it all behind, shall we? I say "we," because we've spent a lot of time together this year, you and I. I've had the privilege of watching you three days a week, and you've come to love me just as much as your sister does. What I've done to deserve a love so deep I'll never know, but I count it, and the two of you, as some of my greatest...

Beyond Our Gaze

Beyond Our Gaze

As we await the arrival of another foal - this time from little miniature horse, "Shadow" - I've been looking back at pics from this time last year when Flynn was born. One, in particular, delights me no end.   When we took these pictures, we were, of course, focused on Maddie holding adorable little Flynn. April, protective mom that she was, was never very far away in those early days. But no one was really paying her any attention, so delighted were we in her offspring. So, when I was going through the pictures and saw this, well, I about fell out with laughter. I mean...LOOK! Oddly, it struck me as I saw it again, that this is a lot like cell phones. See? Odd. But not...
