You know, it wasn’t too long ago that you didn’t really hear that much about abortion in the news. You heard a few blurbs here and there around the anniversary of Roe v. Wade every year, but beyond that, it wasn’t mentioned all that often. Or, maybe it was that we just weren’t listening. Certainly, the people that work tirelessly on the front lines of the pro-life movement were talking about it, but with a Republican administration in the White House, I think a lot of us felt semi-comfortable that the whole pro-life issue was just being “handled” or “protected” by those of “like-mind”.

The thing is, those that are pro-choice have been working tirelessly, as well. They’ve been consistently furthering their movement, during our complacency, and are poised to take record-breaking strides in this current administration. The health care reform bill shows us just how far they’ve come and just how much further they could take it. It may be frightening talk for life-loving folk, but it’s disturbed us into action. Abortion has taken center-stage, FINALLY, and is being discussed everywhere! It’s on the news, in newspapers and magazines, talk-shows and blogs. It’s being brought into the light where it can be seen for what it is, instead of hiding in the darkness where the enemy fights to keep it. There is even a documentary that has been made to this end (if reading from a reader or email, click here to watch the trailer):

Powerful, isn’t it? This film is still looking for a distributor and needs our help by either clicking out to YouTube to watch the trailer, or by clicking here to register at their website.

We are making strides in this movement, but it’s a marathon, not a sprint. We’ve got to keep talking about it, even if things don’t move along as swiftly as we would like, and continue to support all the many groups that are joining forces to keep the abortion issue front and center with our voices, our time and our financial resources. We can’t fall into complacency again. Too many lives are at stake, between all the babies and the parents who make this heart-breaking, devastating decision.

We’ve got to keep it in the Light.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS

…Because of God’s tender mercy,
the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us,
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
and to guide us to the path of peace.
Luke 1:78-79 NLT

Father God, We come to You today – many believers, one voice – to stand for life. Father, we thank You for opening our eyes and disturbing us out of our complacency, into action. Lord, we thank You for this land in which we have not only the opportunity, but the right to speak our piece about issues that are important to us. Help us to continue to do what is necessary to preserve those rights, while standing on the godly foundation upon which our country was originally founded. Over and over again, Lord, You have referred to Yourself and Your Son as “light”…light that dispels the darkness and the secrets and lies it can often hold. Lord, we ask for You to shine brightly through every word that we speak and write for the cause of the unborn. Chase away every shadow, Father, that serves to keep the truth of abortion in the dark and multiply every effort that is made to push it into Your light. Believing You will change one heart for many, we pray in the MIGHTY, LIFE-GIVING NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, Amen.
