Women who have had abortions, and are willing to talk about it, have a huge influence on those who are pregnant and considering the procedure themselves. Of course, the influence can go either way, depending on the stance of the woman doing the talking.

The March issue of Glamour (on newsstands now), features a large article on the subject of abortion. Please know that I am not a supporter of Glamour magazine (or similar publications), as I feel they put a huge focus on issues that lack moral substance and leave women feeling empty and wanting. However, they have a very large readership and, thereby, a large influence. In this month’s article, they are discussing abortion as the “serious health issue that women aren’t talking about”. You can find the main article here. There are also interviews with eight women who have had abortions, and an FAQ section featuring the “most asked questions” about abortion.

While, to their credit, they did publish interviews with some women who claim to have experienced guilt, emotional upheaval and remorse over their decision, more prevalent is the slant to show abortion as a “safe medical procedure”, and to remove the “scary stigma” surrounding it by speaking openly and getting out the “truth”. This is an article in a magazine that, according to Glamour.com, reaches “more than 12 million readers each month and outsells more than 98% of all magazines on the newsstand”. It’s readership target is women, ages 18-49.

This is why our prayer team is so important. With an administration standing behind freedom of choice, our media will have a much wider latitude with what they publish on the topic and will feel much less restrained with how far they go (or perhaps I should say that any shred of restraint that they were showing will be gone!). Further, not only must we pray, but we must speak out to contrast the media; certainly, those women who have been healed from their abortion experience will bring further healing and hope with their transparency, but the truth – the REAL TRUTH – from EVERY ONE OF US, must be spoken through both word and deed.

OUR SCRIPTURE FOCUS

…We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. Ephesians 4:14-15 NLT

Father God, we come in agreement today – many believers, one voice – to stand for life. We believe You when you say that where “two or more are gathered, there You will be”. Lord, we commit to be a “beacon on a hill”, shining the light of Your truth in the darkness permiating our world. Where there are lies being spoken and broadcast in the blink of an eye, we ask that You would supernaturally multiply our efforts toward truth and bring global glory to Yourself. Lord, we lift up President Obama this day, asking that You would remove the scales from his eyes that currently prevent him from seeing Your truth. Shield him from further worldly influence and help him hear the heartcries of the unborn, and the those of us speaking out on their behalf.

Believing You will change one heart for many, we pray in the MIGHTY, LIFE-GIVING NAME OF JESUS CHRIST. Amen.
