Someone recently told Kevin that the cost of solar had really come down. We’d talked about going solar if we ever built another house (as that’s the least expensive time to do it), but since we just moved into this one, and because it’s very well insulated and our bills are pretty reasonable, we never really discussed it again. However, after hearing that statement, we had a company come and give us a bid on converting our home and barn. We were pretty sure we had a perfect set up for it.
And we were right. They said we were situated perfectly, and had great roof space, especially on the riding arena, to load us up with all the panels we would ever need. They told us about all the benefits to harnessing the sun’s energy and how much money it would save over time. We could recoup the upfront costs in as little as 14 years.
We wouldn’t spend near the amount they quoted in fourteen years if we just stayed with our electric! We were floored. And if that amount is the LOWERED cost, then all I can say is WOW.
I really love the idea of going solar. The sun is a free resource, after all, with enough energy for everyone, but it’s a shame that it’s so cost prohibitive. It’s also a shame that we don’t tap into the free resource we have in Christ more often than we do. We have all the power of the Son at our disposal, with no panels or installation needed, save for a sincere admission of our sinful nature and our need to be saved from it. Although the up-front price was sky-high, He already paid it.
It’s all the power and strength of heaven, and it’s yours for the asking.
I think that’s the kind of Solar I’ll be focusing on using more of in 2014. Maybe if we both do, we’ll not only light up our own neck of the world, but make the world a little brighter, too.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere…” Acts 1:8 NLT
“…My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness…” 2 Corinthians 12:19 ESV
“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 ESV
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 ESV
God in us, AWESOME!!! We have so much power through the Holy Spirit. If only we had the unwavering faith to receive it. Good analogy and lesson!!
this has brightened my morning <3
