Today is our long-awaited, “after Brody is born, we’ll go to Disney World” trip.

Praise God.

We’ve talked and talked about it. And it’s not like we haven’t been before, mind you. We are a Disney family. We’ve been pass-holders, my daughter’s family are all pass-holders, and we’ve made that trek from Dallas to Orlando, Des Moines to Orlando, and, over the last several years, Tampa to Orlando, many times. My grandgirls are pros, and yet, it still holds a magic over all of us.

You know, old Walt had a vision. A BIG vision. It still saddens me that he didn’t see the dream of Disney World realized in its fullness before he went on to his greater reward. He was just one man, a cartoonist, who had a little character he dreamed up named Mickey. A lowly mouse. Isn’t it amazing that it all started there? A single person and a story board containing a mouse on a steamboat, began what has affected millions, if not billions, of people, worldwide. It’s a staggering thought.

I wonder, a lot actually, why we don’t think we can make a difference. And I wonder about it so much because I am one of those people. I know, logically, that it’s possible. Ripple in the water, and all that..we all have a part to play. But the possibility to have that kind of global impact is mind-blowing to me.

I think it’s what Jesus was talking about when He gave us the Great Commission, telling us to “go into all the world” with the Good News…HIS good news. Because if we tell even one person about Him, who knows who they’ll tell? Consider the person who shared Christ with the person who eventually shared Him with Billy Graham? Do we know their name? Nope. Are they a world-changer?

Absolutely.

Maybe that’s why I love returning to Disney again and again. It’s a reminder of the magic of possibility. I’m grateful there’s more to Mickey than meets the eye, and really, there’s more to you and me, too. Just like him, we can be a giant ripple in global waters, and make someone’s heart (including our own) the happiest place on earth.

“Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 NLT

“Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Each day proclaim the good news that He saves.” 1 Chronicles 16:23 NLT
