Brody is at that point where he is putting the toddle in the toddler. He’s pretty much walking everywhere, but not without a fall about every 10-12 steps, or stopping to wave his arms in a tight-rope-walker-style balance attempt. It’s adorable to watch. With the weather being so beautiful, we’ve been able to be outside a lot, and he’s been experiencing grass and dirt and rocks in a country setting like every little boy should.

Last evening, we were all outside. Lilli was on horse duty with Maddie (just about her happiest of all places), and while Papa chatted with a neighbor, Emmie and I was letting Brody “run” free. He’ll point to trees, now, if you ask him, and he happened to notice the sky, too, throwing his head straight back to just marvel at it. Finding a smattering of tiny rocks and sand at the end of the driveway, he sat for about 20 minutes, scattering them with his tiny hands, picking up small rocks one by one, and holding them up to the light like fine diamonds.

I’m always struck by how children take in the world around them, but never so much as when a baby starts to become mobile and interact with it on their own. Everything is new and special and spectacular…exactly as it can be with us if we view it with fresh eyes.

Saturday is the perfect day to join my babies in doing just that. But it’s the perfect day for all of us to peel our eyes back in wonder at it the world.

It can be new everyday.

Special.

Spectacular.
