Patience is a Virtue
That title? It seems the truth of it has gone the way of the dinosaurs, if you take a look around. Case in point: The checkout line at Super Target on the last day before most of our schools start around here. Oh, and they were short on checkers. Oh, and about half of the lanes were closed due to registers down. Yeah. So, I was about in the middle of a shortish line, but all the buggies were heaping, including mine. While I was very ready to get out of there, I wasn't on a time schedule, and I didn't have kids whining and pulling on me, either. So, I counted my blessings and settled in, taking a look around at lo, all the other disgruntled shoppers. They ran the gamut of lots of...
May I Have Your Attention, Please?
I was in a dressing room, trying to make a decision on a pair of pants, when I heard her. An older woman, she was outside in the little waiting area, speaking to the store employees, the other people waiting, and anyone else within ear shot, and she was talking about her dog. A teacup Yorkie, it turns out, and the conversation was specifically about that Yorkie's birthday party. Her FIRST birthday party, to be exact. It was held at a high class doggie accoutrement store in Dallas, where she had a huge cake made (with doggie-safe ingredients) and they invited all her friends. The friends got to shop for a party favor at the store, and there was, apparently, a game involved. It was...
Simple Pleasures
My first day to actually be home since I returned from Florida last weekend. It was yesterday. I slept in a little. I sat long and luxuriously, after I wrote yesterday's post, and had some more quiet time. I caught up on social media, wrote a few notes that needed writing. Then I ate some breakfast. Don't get me wrong. After being away from my house for basically two weeks, I had a lot to do. Laundry was piled up, along with the mail. The fridge needed to be cleaned out and restocked, and I had some non-profit stuff to take care of. But it was quiet, save for Pandora and her classical guitar station softly playing in the background. The roadrunners were out in full force yesterday,...
Here Today
My husband works for an insurance company. When you deal in life insurance, death is a topic that is put on the table every day, and people don't always like it. I'll admit that it's not the most upbeat topic, even for a blog post, but it's a reality of life. We would be remiss if we didn't make ourselves take a look at it every now and then. I was wearing my recruiting hat yesterday, so I went into the office with Kevin. One of our agents came in to see him, looking a little downcast. Kevin asked if she'd gotten the big case finished that she'd been working on, and she replied with a resounding NO. It seemed the client had completed the investment work with the agent, but kept...
Together
I saw something yesterday that blew me away. It was a paradox of simplicity and complexity, and it left my mind to ponder you and me. Yes, us. I'm going to wait here while you watch it. Go ahead...all the way to the end, please. (if you can't see it on your device, click here to watch) Amazing, isn't it? When I was little, we would sometimes go to church with my grandparents, who were members of the Church of Christ. They did not use (and, I believe, still don't) instrumentation in their church services, believing instead that the human voice was the purest (and only) instrument God ever made. I was used to a glorious old pipe organ in my own home church, and everyone sang the...
