Dream a Little Dream

It all started on a blog. This one, in fact, when my friend Mary left her first comment over here. Comments led to email, which eventually led to us meeting in person and discovering all we had in common. That meeting left us both with the hint that maybe we were supposed to do some ministry together.A mere glint in the eyes of two willing women.A dream.Tomorrow, I leave to meet her in the mountains of North Carolina for a strategy/vision-casting meeting. The dream that we offered up to the Lord months ago, was taken into His mighty hands and fashioned into more than we ever thought possible. What will He do with this gIRL™ once she's "born"? We're excited to chase after Him and...

Thin Places: A Memoir

I received the book discussed in the following post, free-of-charge, for the purpose of review. When I first heard about Mary DeMuth's memoir, Thin Places, I was intrigued with the title. "What's a 'thin place'?" I thought to myself. When I cracked the book open, I was pleased to find the answer to this question right away:"The Celts define a "thin place" as a place where heaven and the physical world collide, one of those serendipitous territories where eternity and the mundane meet. Thin describes the membrane between the two worlds, like a piece of vellum, where we see a holy glimpse of the eternal - not in digital clarity, but clear enough to discern what lies beyond."Working under this...

The Beyond Magic Friend Maker

The Magic Friend-Maker. It was my very favorite book.I distinctly remember my mom stopping what she was doing to sit down and read to me the story of a little girl who welcomed and made friends with the new girl in her apartment building by sharing with her a special rock that she treasured. There was a part in that book where, after holding the rock for a while, she gave it to her friend, who marveled that the rock still held the warmth of her friend's touch. For the rest of the post...find me over here. Thanks!

God's Classroom

There are just some days where God taps you on the shoulder and says "School is in session." Yesterday was one of those for me.My day began with a list of things that needed to be done before heading out for Florida to see my daughter and meet her boyfriend (and father of our coming granddaughter) for the first time. I had received an earlier text from a friend who works for a large Christian company. She was scheduled to be in town for a sold-out event, and while she knew I was going to be gone for the event itself, she was arriving a day early and asked if it would be possible to see me. I had some time in the afternoon before attending my first women's ministry gathering at my new...

Beauty Found in Stooping Down

I must've watched them for at least half an hour.In the midst of the "Great Texas Snow Event of 2010," my new neighbor across the street was outside with his three-year-old, building a whopper of a snow man. They started at the bottom, of course, rolling the big base and getting it packed well to support the rest of the big chubby guy. What I loved watching, though, was how the dad plopped himself down in the snow to help his little son pat on his own snow offerings. He didn't have on snow pants (not a staple down here in the typically "brown south"), just jeans, which were quickly soaking through. But he stayed down there until his son was finished, and then, in one quick motion, he...
