The Disarray of a Job Half-Done
While I'm on a blog break, please enjoy this post originally published in October of 2008.Last week, we hired a company to do several things required for the exterior up-keep of a Florida home. If you've never lived down here, there are things that must be done that you'd never dream of having to do. For instance, we have to pressure-wash our roof to remove mold that accumulates up there and turns it black (lovely, I know). We also have to maintain our screened enclosure around the pool; the one that keeps not only mosquitoes and other flying insects away, but also the dreaded reptilian variety of pests (think "Crocodile Hunter" - crikey!). The company we hired to do these, and a number of...
Come Back from a Messy Heart
While I'm on a blog break, please enjoy this post originally published in August 2008.It never ceases to amaze me how my house, though clean when I leave for a trip, can be found with somewhat less "sparkle" when I return. During this last getaway, the only ones here were my daughter, who nannies 24/7 outside the house, and our little dog whose main pass-time is snoozing on the sofa. They weren't messing things up; in fact, the dishes were put away and the counters were cleared. However, after a week without me in it, the house had a build up of dust on the furniture, the floors were in desperate need of a good cleaning and the mail and superfluous paper had stacked up to cover a corner of...
Changing One Heart for Many – Week 26
Just joining us? Go here to catch up and join the movement!Week 26!!! We have officially reached the half-way point in our year of praying together for change!! I'm going to ask for a roll-call here; even if you never comment or read from Facebook, PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT TO LET US KNOW YOU'RE STILL WITH US, AND IF YOU COMMITTED TO SIX MONTHS, PLEASE CONSIDER EXTENDING YOUR COMMITMENT.It's fitting that as we mark six months of praying together, that we have something HUGE to celebrate! This week, President Obama met with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican, to hold a discussion on none other than abortion, stem-cell research and other life-related issues! The Los Angeles Times reports (for...
What Goes In Must Come Out
Post originally published June of 2007.I've been thinking lately about our dogs over the years, and whenever they cross my memory, the antics of one in particular always bring a smile to my face - Nick.Nick was a very large chocolate lab that came to us at the age of 9 mos. and already weighed in at 98 lbs. When we got him, he came with an enormous food bowl and a "Bart" head - the large, plastic likeness of Bart Simpson. He carried that thing around with him like a security blanket, but only when he wasn't chewing on something else that DIDN'T belong to him! Cordless phones, sunglasses, a newly-planted rose bush, one of every pair of sandals I had, and, of course, toys!I remember a friend...
Nothing But a Blur!
Between the movement of our goods from Florida to Texas (finally!), a business trip to Chicago, the move from a corporate apartment to another apartment while we build our house, and several other assorted distractions, the month of July will find me nothing more than a blur. I'll be on the move and gone from not only my own blog, but the blogosphere in general.I will still be scheduling posts for the prayer team, so those will be up-to-the-minute and current. However, I'm going to schedule some "re-runs" of some old favorites during the month, so please continue to stop by.I'll miss you, bloggy friends, but just think of all we'll have to talk about when I get back!May blessings abound in...
