Siesta Ornament Exchange
Today's the day for the Siesta Ornament Exchange "Show and Tell"! This was a really fun way to get to know some more of our Siestas and have some good ol' Christmas fun!My ornament exchange was with Kimberly at KimiGMomofThree. It was really fun to find out that she, too, is a native Texan living in another state! She also enjoys watching her kids ride horses, which is something I've spent a LOT of time doing with my oldest daughter! It was so fun to receive this lovely ornament from her, in a cute little tin:What I love even more is what it says:I never fail to be overjoyed at the sight of the Star...do you?Thank you sweet Kimberly! So glad to be your Siesta!
Meli Kalikimaka…
...is the thing to say on a bright Floridian Christmas day! That's the Gulf-coast greeting that we send to you from the land where palm trees sway!" Okay, so I took a little poetic license with that Bing Crosby tune, but it fits, I tell ya, it fits!It still boggles my mind, even after living here for three years, that it's December and I've got my whole house open to the 70 degree temps and fresh sunshine. There really are palm trees swaying in my front and back yards - incredible! This Texas-girl-turned-Floridian-via-Iowa, has known her share of ice-laden Christmases and Christmases adrift in the snow, but this type of Christmas is a little different. You sort of have to manufacture a...
Silent Night Living in a Jingle Bell World
It's a noisy time of year, isn't it? Certainly, there are a lot of beautiful sounds of the season in the carols, bells and laughter. However, once we layer on the multitude of seasonal movies and television programs, Santas ho-ho-hoing, the revelry of parties, and a plethora of endless retail commercials and radio ads, we have quite a cacophony. In the midst of it all, I sometimes find it hard to hear my own heart beat.I've found my mind drifting toward thoughts of silence - longing for it, really. While I love all the beautiful sounds of the season, I am a person that needs to re-center in silence. It's precisely at this time every year that I'm struck by what a "wordy" society we are and...
A Reminder for the Holiday Crazies
I wrote the following post in July of this year. Several of you read it at that time, but I wanted to bring it back out as we become entrenched in the "crazies" of the holiday season. A little perspective can go a long way and, well, maybe spare your children. *grin* Read on and you'll understand. Let my pain be your gain.Hubs and I were getting ready for an office gathering that took place at our home last night. We've been having a lot of rain lately (it is hurricane season, after all) and we recently had a roof leak that showed itself through an unsightly brown stain on our breakfast nook ceiling. As we were icing down drinks, he commented about how sorry he was that the stain hadn't...
The Cleanse
For the last week or so, you could lump my blog in with those cell phone commercials that talk about the "dead zone." Ain't nothing much been happening around here...dead indeed! However, there is good reason for that. You might assume that I, like most everyone else, was busy with my family for the holiday, but I celebrated last weekend while my girls were home. So, this week was consumed with something else. A while back, I talked about the message God gave me about my health. Since that time, I've been trying a lot of different things to heed that warning, but finally, I found a doctor (thanks Jen!) that is taking things in a different direction than what I've tried in the past. I have...
