Siestaville: Where Jesus is King and No One's Napping
If you're an everyday blogger, you might have run across something about a Siesta Fiesta, or this emblem blazing its way across the blogosphere:Well, it is the logo of the highly anticipated gathering of Beth Moore's "siestas" (which comes from the attempted typing of the word "sista" [for sister] changed by spellcheck to "siesta"). The interesting thing that's happened over the last year, is that while we've all been getting ready to go to this event, we've started to read each other's blogs more fervently and frequently. We've begun to really get to know each other, and in a way that is only possible in the Body of Christ, we've come to really love each other - though most of us have...
Prepared
The weekend we came to Florida to consider our move here, we stayed at an Embassy Suites Hotel and met a realtor whom we'd chosen over the Internet to show us around. She spent that first day driving us around different parts of town, pointing out housing areas that met our general criteria, the main thoroughfares and the schools, and when we arrived back to the hotel that evening, she left us with a packet of newcomer info for a little light reading.I went about my usual bedtime routine, which usually always involves a hot bath, and as I relaxed in the warmth of the tub, I perused the material she'd given us. At first, I couldn't imagine why you wouldn't want to move to the area, what...
Choosing the Unchosen
The Samaritan Woman and I have been hanging out together lately. You might know her better as the Woman at the Well. She's the very one from whom Jesus asked for a cup of cool water, as He was making His way from Judea to Galilee. There are so many nuggets of truth in this story, but there is something I discovered that has been working itself through me.In order to understand it better, you need a little background. Jews and Samaritans didn't get along. At. All. The nation of Israel had been split into northern and southern tribes due to the northern tribes' refusal to accept Solomon's son Rehoboam as king, and soon became known as "Israel" in the north and "Judah" in the south....
The Shelter of God's Hand
Today is one of those "word" days. I get them from time to time; a day when God drops a word into my mind like a coin into a bank. The word for the day is "hand".I combed the scriptures, of which there are many, that have to do with the hand. There are passages about man's left hand and right hand, the hands of oppressors, the hand of the enemy; but more than any other, there are scriptures talking about the mighty hand of God.This one in particular stood out to me:Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 1 Peter 5:6 (KJV)Last month, my blog friend, Elaine, wrote a post called "Anonymous". [As an aside, you should just head right on...
Face to the Son
I'm not gonna lie to you, my bloggy people. Yesterday was a BAD day. I just this second remembered a book I used to read to my kids called Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Well, yesterday, I could've given ol' Alexander (and he would be old by now - that book's been around for a while!) a run for his money. You see, after going through the steps that Jesus went through to deal with His heavy heart, I found myself wrestling with the fact that I had to reconcile myself to the fourth step: I had to concede that God's will was NOT in line with my own, and figure out a way to be okay with that.My reaction to God saying "No, My way is going to be different and...
