Falling Short
Losing it. Blowing up. Loss of control. Temper Tantrum. No matter how you slice it, none of these descriptions apply to the actions of a child. They apply to me. Grown woman. Mother of grown children who knows better. I share this with you, lest you think that I have it all together (especially in light of my last couple of posts on motherhood). I so don't. Even grown children still know how to push your buttons and even so-called "mature" parents reach the end of their rope from time-to-time. World-class melt-downs are not just reserved for two year-olds in need of a nap. You know, there's nothing like falling short of the mark to make you take stock. The thing is, sometimes...
The Real Me
If you read Amy's comment on my last post, "Pieces of You", you read the interesting question she posed: Where is the line between 'investing' who I am into my children, and living vicariously through them? How do I invest in them with who I am and, at the same time, fully allow them to become who God intended them to be? An important question, indeed, especially if you've been around the dreaded "stage mom"! In all seriousness, I spent a good deal of the day's allotted thought time on this one. Since that last post used "investing" as an analogy, I'll stick with it. If you have some money that you want to invest, the main objective is to make it grow. You can do this a couple of...
Pieces of You
I've been away from the blogosphere for the last couple of weeks, between traveling to Dallas and packing up the flu in my suitcase to bring home as a souvenir. Perhaps I should've opted for a Dallas Cowboys t-shirt from the airport. At any rate, I'm better, and venturing back to catch up on my favorite blogs. This, of course, means that I had to head over to my friend Amy's blog.Amy is a young mom of two adorable little girls. She recently posted a story about a mom who was dealing with "losing" herself in the midst of raising her kids. If you're a mom, and you haven't already, you will eventually understand this phenomenon. Somewhere between being the wife and the mommy and the...
Sowing in Tears
I am currently leading Jesus the One and Only (Beth Moore) in my Wednesday morning bible study here at the house. Man, I love that group! This week, there was a point made out of Luke that hit me afresh.Jesus was giving the Sermon on the Mount (Luke 6:17-26), where He talks about those who are blessed in their poverty, persecution and suffering in His name. In the study, we are told that the original Greek for the word "blessed" is makarios, which means "blessed, possessing the favor of God, that state of being marked by the fullness from God." It seems to suggest that those that are suffering (sometimes greatly), and still cling to their faith, are favored by God. This was something...
The Invitation
The story you are about to read is true. The names, however, have NOT been changed to protect the stupid. Yep, stupid. I've been out of town for the last week, but just before I left, I went with my husband and daughter to run some errands. We were in a hurry and forgot to shut the garage door when we pulled out. We didn't discover this until we got home a few hours later. That's when we realized that, because it was a windy day and we apparently didn't shut the door into the house very well, the wind had blown that door open. So, to make sure you have a clear picture, both the garage and the house doors were wide open, and had been for possibly hours. As we stepped cautiously into the...
