Open Your Eyes and Ears

I'm glad that there is no law that can charge me with blog neglect, because I would surely be guilty! It's been quite a while. It's not like there is nothing going on or I don't have anything to write about. In fact, there's been so much going on, I really don't know where to start! I guess it's the nature of this time of year.I had a conversation with a colleague of my husband's about this just after Thanksgiving. I was busy decorating the office for Christmas and he came out to say hello. He shook his head and said, "Don't you get enough of this at home?" When I asked what he meant, he said, "My wife's got boxes and boxes strung out at home and it takes her all week to decorate. I hate...

THE JOURNEY – Max Lucado

I drove the family to Grandma’s last night for Thanksgiving. Three hours into the six-hour trip, I realized that I was in a theology lab.A day with a car full of kids will teach you a lot about God. Transporting a family from one city to another is closely akin to God transporting us from our home to his. A journey is a journey, whether the destination be the Thanksgiving table or the heavenly one. Both demand patience, a good sense of direction, and a driver who knows that the feast at the end of the trip is worth the hassles in the midst of the trip. For me, six hours on the road is a small price to pay for my mom’s strawberry cake. I don’t mind the drive because I know the reward. I have...

Sense-ability of God

I was taking a walk the other day with my little dog, Riley, and, it was a particularly beautiful morning. As we were walking along, I noted a vibrant, azure sky...the fragrance of some kind of flower which was marvelous...the perfect breeze brushing along my skin. As a person who is very moved by nature, I have always viewed these things as an expression of love from a warm and masterful Creator. And they surely are. But that morning something else hit me that I'd never really thought of before.I found myself being really thankful for all my senses. Thanking Him for my eyesight to see that sky, my sense of smell to receive that fragrance, my sense of touch to feel that breeze. Another...

All Things Scarlet

I have a precious friend who is up against one of the scariest "mountains" that any of us could imagine facing on this earth. I knew part of her story, a broad overview of events that brought her to the foothills of the mountain. However, today she was called to obedience, called to transparency with those closest to her, called to disclose the old stuff that made her into the person that committed the sin, in an effort to allow a thorough heart-cleaning to take place. After today, I think she is the bravest person I know.I was mulling over the facts after she shared them, and had several things brought to mind. First of all, the nature of her situation is calling for her to have these...
