Find Your Candidate

With the 2008 Presidential Election seeming like it is going to be happening this November, we can't help but be thinking about which possible candidate is most aligned with what issues are important to us. I had a friend send me a link to a great web site that, after giving you an opportunity to answer several questions about the hot topics, tells you which candidate lines up best with where you stand. You then are given links to each candidate for further information. To give it a try, click here.Although I'm not typically one to get on a soap box about politics, I'm asking you to be informed, figure out where you stand and who best stands with you, and most of all...exercise your...

Full Circle

We went to the Saturday night service at church this weekend, which left us with a free Sunday morning. We slept in and, if that weren't decadent enough, we went out to breakfast. No planning, just a spur-of-the-moment decision to head out the door. We settled in on the patio of a popular South Tampa place called Daily Eats. There were people there with kids, some singles with their dogs (it's that kind of place) and, next to us, a young couple that looked to be expecting their first child VERY soon. We were close enough that we couldn't help but hear their conversation. I smiled to myself as I listened to them talk about how they wouldn't be able to do this sort of thing for too much...

Ahhhh…Retreat!

As I mentioned in my last blog, I spent last weekend at our Women's Retreat at church. I am a veteran "women's retreater" and I love everything about them.I looked up the word "retreat" in the dictionary and this is what it said:1. the act of withdrawing, as into safety or privacy; retirement; seclusion.2. a place of refuge, seclusion, or privacy3. a retirement or a period of retirement for religious exercises and meditation4. an asylum, as for the insane. When I first started going, I was the mother of a 3 year old and an 8 month old, so that last definition really applied! All kidding aside (and, hey, who's really kidding?) a retreat is all these things. There is something so...

I Can See Clearly Now…

...the sulfur's gone. The sulfur? Yep, the sulfur. In my eye. As in "sulfuric acid", or the rotten-egg-smelling powder that they used to sprinkle on your socks at camp to keep ticks away. How did it get in my eye, you ask? Well, let me tell you. This past weekend I was at our church's women's retreat (worthy of a blog in and of itself, but that's all you get right now!). I awoke one morning with scratchy eyes and stumbled sleepily to my overnight bag to dig around for my eye drops. Unbeknownst to me, a small, similarly-shaped bottle of sulfur-based blemish solution was lurking in the depths of my bag (it's presence there remains a mystery). I felt the familiar shape of the lid and pulled it...

Room with a View

I'm writing today from Phoenix, where we have been celebrating the retirement of a dear friend. It's hot, but beautiful, here and I've really been enjoying the view from our room. What is it about a beautiful view? People clamor for the best view, no matter where they are. They're willing to pay more (sometimes a LOT more) for a good view, whether it be for the lot where they will build their home, tickets for a concert or a game, or, as in my case, a hotel room. They want to view, unobstructed, the sight that lays before them. We, as humans, like things to be perfectly clear. We don't want to miss anything. We see an open vista before us and we're filled with the notion that anything is...
