Will You be a Partner in Hope?

You've heard me talk about our non-profit, Hope for the Trail. We've been waiting for two years for our 501(c)3 status, and it finally, FINALLY, came! Since we received it, we've been working on a new web site and some re-branding, and today we are launching it, along with a little something we hope you'll be a part of! Not Quite Home

I'm staying at my sister-in-law's place, taking care of my niece while her mother's away at a work conference. It's a nice apartment, spacious, yet cozy. I have my stuff here, in my suitcase, like you do when you aren't home. Toiletry bag is hanging on the back of the bathroom door, brought my own pillow, and even have my own fuzzy slippers. However, as I listen to the sleet hit the windows (winter storm in North Texas), I also hear the (apparently heavy) man walking around in the apartment above me. I hear people getting into their cars below, cursing the weather, and more traffic, beyond, on the main road. The ice maker sounds different than mine, and there are some sort of...

Seriously, it’s RIGHT THERE.

I've been having some crazy dreams, lately. Dreams involving bizarre, random scenarios with my family, my friends, and even TV personalities, like the Bravermans from Parenthood. (Did you know that Julia and Hank are now an item?) Last night's episode found me at a camp-like conference center, located in an area with tall, lodgepole pines. We walked along, enjoying the beautiful scenery, and chatting about the surprise plot...

And We Wait…

Maddie's mare, April, is due with her first foal on Saturday. She is huge, and it makes me uncomfortable just to look at her. We were in hopes that she would go early, as Maddie took this month off for "maternity leave," a) so she wouldn't miss it and b) so she would have time to get the new arrival settled (read: play with the new arrival). April has not, however, had that baby. She's been grazing to her heart's content in the little temporary pasture that is the grassy area in the middle of our circle drive. Maddie can see her from her house (she has her own place on the property), and we can see her from ours. I seriously must look out that window 372 times a day. Maddie was over...

You’re Speaking My Language

While I was in Florida a couple of weeks ago, Lilli asked me, out of the blue, if I could speak Spanish. I told her that I knew a few words, which included counting to ten, so she asked if I could teach her. We spent most of our day at Disney World with me counting and her echoing. Because isn't that what everyone does at Disney World? After about the 70th time, I said, Lilli, you know you can ask Daddy to tell you how to say any word in Spanish, right? I mean, he speaks fluent Spanish, which means he can talk as well in Spanish as he does in English. Blank stare. Big blue saucer eyes. Um, Mimmie? No he doesn't." Blank stare. Big brown saucer eyes. Sweetheart, you don't know that...
