For the Love of Parenthood
I started watching the TV show "Parenthood" from the very beginning, when it first aired. Then, years later, in the midst of the final season, Kevin said he wanted to watch it, so we binge-watched the entire thing from beginning to end. I watched the final episode with Emmie, while I was in Florida, then again, with Kevin, about a week later. The emotional devastation was real. Both times, REAL. What is it about that show? They are just characters, after all, playing members of a fictional family called the Bravermans. They struggle, and they have meltdowns. They fight, and have financial problems. There is sibling rivalry, and parental strife. And they mess up. All of them, in one...
On Being Thankful When You Feel Like Poop
I've been under the weather since night before last. Sinus stuff. Sore throat. The crud. I found out that all three of my grandkids are also sick, and now my daughter is showing symptoms, too. That mess seems to find most all of us, this time of year, unless we're really lucky and dodge the bullet. I've been working hard to dial in my health and nutrition over the last year, leaving me at my healthiest in quite some time, plus I've started using essential oils (yes, I jumped on that bandwagon and really like them), so, between those two things, I haven't felt nearly as bad as I usually do with respiratory issues; however, I've still laid low. As I stayed quietly under the radar...
Not Quite Done
Hello, there. I hope the last week has been as good for you as it was for me. However, filled with the delights of my favorite children in all the world, my week would be hard to beat. Brody and I made some significant strides in that he is now calling me "Ninnie," instead of "Nana." No one can figure out why he was calling me Nana, when he would clearly point to me when asked "Where's Mimmie?" but Ninnie, at least, is a step in the right direction! He is precious, loving, and all boy, delighting in anything transportation or ball related. We got some great time with Valé this week, as her mom was traveling while we were there, so she was staying at her dad's. She's headed into her...
Up, Up and Away
Seated on a plane bound for sweet hugs and slobbery kisses. May be around here this week. May not. Have a beautiful week!
His Words (for when life seems unfair)
Every Sunday around here is for His words instead of mine. Sometimes the unfairness of life can seem overwhelming. He has something to say about that. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? ~ Psalm 118:6 ESV Take my side, God—I’m getting kicked around, stomped on every day. Not a day goes by but somebody beats me up; They make it their duty to beat me up. When I get really afraid I come to you in trust. I’m proud to praise God; fearless now, I trust in God. What can mere mortals do? ~ Psalm 56:1-4 MSG Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your...
