His Words (for when you are stretched too thin)

Every Sunday around here is for His words instead of mine. Are you being pulled to a breaking point? He has something to say about that.   Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? ~ Psalm 118:5-6 ESV Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad. ~ Proverbs 12:25 ESV Anyone who meets a testing challenge head-on and manages to stick it out is mighty fortunate. For such persons loyally in love with God, the reward is life and more life. ~ James 1:12 ESV Oh Martha, Martha, you are so anxious and concerned about a million details, but really, only one...

Fire

When it's really cold, and because we have a house comprised of concrete floors and floor-to-ceiling windows across the back, we have a difficult time keeping the temperature comfortable and even without draining our propane tank dry (and our bank account, for that matter). This winter, Kevin decided to try wide-coverage infrared space heaters, strategically placed around the house, and keeping our fireplaces going all day. When we bought the house, the fireplaces were fitted with Heatilator units. They are heavy, black, cast-iron inserts that have a forced-air blower at the top. Honestly, neither of us were crazy about how they looked, and even considered having them removed so the...

Try It. You’ll Like It.

Well, yesterday was the day. I tore open the package at a fevered pitch and pulled it out in all its fleece goodness. Yes. It was my Uni-Lazy. I know I could be a bear for Halloween. I know it's big and baggie and hideous. And you know what? I DON'T CARE. It's also super warm, very soft, and practical, with its zippered trap door for potty ease. But beyond that, why would I care? I've thought about it, since I bought it. You know, there have been a lot - A LOT - of things I haven't even tried because they were too ________. Fill in the blank with, oh, I don't know...silly? Ridiculous? Things that I thought would make me look stupid in front of others? That's the thing, isn't it? We...

Band of Brothers

It's no secret around these parts that I am patriotic, or that I love history, or that I have a particular interest in the WWII era. I've talked about all three. So, it will not surprise you in the least that I spent last evening watching Band of Brothers, not for the first, but second, time. And you know what? It will likely not be the last. Why, you ask? Well, it's not because I enjoy seeing people be shot and blown up. It's also not because I have a particular love of seeing them struggling to keep themselves together, both mentally and physically. And I'm definitely not entertained by two of them hoisting only a portion of a third between them, screaming "MEDIC!" while dragging...

On a Mission

I'm not sure what made me think about it. It simply jumped into my mind unbidden, and I thought I'd throw it out to the masses. What is your dream job, and are you doing it? That's the question I posed last night on Facebook. I received quite a few comments, and they're still coming in. Teachers, Landmen, Truckdrivers...for the most part, it seems people love what they're doing. However, that doesn't mean they are doing what they love. There's a difference. There may have been an original dream of doing a thing, but life got in the way; circumstances changed and different choices had to be made. But the choices led to doing something very fulfilling; surprisingly so, for some. They ended...
