The Day I Bought a Uni-Lazy
Yesterday was cold. Really cold. Not the sub-zero, frozen tundra temps of the Great White North, but dang frigid for those of us in the usually mild South. We had the fire going all day, space heaters working overtime, and our freshly filled propane tank laboring along like a champ, but I could not get warm. I huddled under my tried and true leopard Snuggie that has served me so well for the last four winters (Succumbing to that "as seen on TV" marketing craze, I bought a deluxe version without shame and I've never looked back), but even with fuzzy socks, and winter running clothes, I was still shivering. And, even when I managed the tiniest bit of warmth, I'd have to get up and go do...
His Words (for when you need to make a big decision)
Every Sunday around here is for His words instead of mine. Sometimes a new year finds you facing down big decisions, or new opportunities. If that's you, this year, He has something to say about that. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. ~ James 1:5 ESV Place your trust in the Eternal; rely on Him completely; never depend upon your own ideas and inventions. Give Him the credit for everything you accomplish, and He will smooth out and straighten the road that lies ahead. ~ Proverbs 3:5-6 VOICE Don’t be anxious about things; instead, pray. Pray about everything. He longs to hear your...
Mash-up
I, just this second, saw the following video on Facebook. It's an acoustic mash-up cover of two Taylor Swift songs. Take a listen (even if you're not a Taylor fan - it won't hurt, I promise), then I'll meet you on the other side. Beautiful, isn't it? Two completely different songs. Two completely different voices. One great piece of music. And you know what was the first thing I thought of as I listened? Marriage. Two people show up at the altar. They have different voices, sing different songs. Early on, when they try to sing together, it's not always harmonious. Sometimes the notes really clash into some crazy minor cord, or maybe their timing isn't in sync, as they sing at...
The Great Purge of 2015
I'm still sitting here, writing by the light of the Christmas tree. It's still beautiful, with its warm, twinkling ambiance, especially when it's freezing outside, and the rain is, too, but something has shifted in me. Certainly, the fact that it's January 2nd has something to do with it. The holidays are officially over. But, as Kevin and I were getting ready for bed last night, I said "You know things are in a bad way when you are actually looking forward to the three-day cleanse you are planning to start tomorrow." You see, it's not only the house that needs a good purge and return to order, but my body, as well. I've done a fairly good job of staying on track with eating healthy...
When You’re Awakened by Michael Bublé
I wonder if it's a good omen if you're nudged gently out of a sound slumber by Michael Bublé on New Year's Day. Because I was, and he was serenading me, even, which I thought was very nice, since he wasn't even there in person. Instead, his rich, melodious voice crooned in the recesses of my mind, and sang me fully awake. It's a new dawn. It's a new day. It's a new life for me...and I'm feeling good! Really, he could've chosen any number of songs out of my mental songbook, but to sing that particular one on New Year's Day was incredibly thoughtful. And you know why? Because it IS a new dawn. It IS a new day. And it really IS a new life for me AND you, because today is another new...
