His Words (for when the world is spinning too fast)
Every Sunday around here is for His words, instead of mine. Feel like your life is so fast and busy that you can't keep up? He has something to say about that. As they continued their travel, Jesus entered a village. A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and made him feel quite at home. She had a sister, Mary, who sat before the Master, hanging on every word he said. But Martha was pulled away by all she had to do in the kitchen. Later, she stepped in, interrupting them. “Master, don’t you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand.” The Master said, “Martha, dear Martha, you’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over...
When Ministry Works
I had an opportunity to be a part of something special the other night. It was a women's ministry event at a church in the DFW area, called Gateway. Now, I've been part of many a women's ministry gathering over the years. Conferences and retreats and girls' nights out. Bible studies, small groups, and volunteering together. I've done it all, and led it all, and, truthfully, I thought this would likely be just another event, on a slightly larger scale. But, no. This was an event orchestrated by a ministry team who considers every minute detail. Everything, from what is typically considered important, like pre-training meetings for strategically placed women whose sole purpose is to...
His Words (for when you feel forgotten)
Every Sunday around here is for His words, instead of mine. Feeling forgotten? Read on to realize you are always in His thoughts. Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, I’d never forget you—never. Look, I’ve written your names on the backs of my hands. The walls you’re rebuilding are never out of my sight. ~ Isaiah 49:15 MSG Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you. I’ve called your name. You’re mine. When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end— Because I am God,...
Epic
Did you have fun last night? Food? Fireworks? I hope so. Freedom is certainly something to be celebrated. We grilled out, and were supposed to head to a neighbor's house, who lives behind us, for fireworks with about 200 of their closest friends, but Kevin had mowed all afternoon, and Maddie, who'd planned to join us, had worked late. By the time we should of been heading to their house, we knew we weren't going to make it. So, just as it was getting dark, we loaded up the Mule (utility cart) with smudge pots, and two rocking chairs (Beverly Hillbillies style), doused ourselves in Off, and headed to our dam for a front row view of the sky above their house. We set up the pots and...
TDDF (That’s not a typo, and it has nothing to do with Friday)
I posted about waiting on God, yesterday. A "His Words" post, which is comprised of exactly that - HIS WORDS. I have lived a good portion of the last couple of years in a waiting place, and while I'm no longer waiting on some of those answers, I still have a couple that linger. We all do, don't we? Aren't we always waiting on God for something? Many of the scriptures that I pulled were familiar to me, as I've had them on speed dial during these last many months, so I decided to list most all of them in a different version of the Bible, to keep them fresh, and filled with new perspective. There was one in particular that stood out to me: Trust in Jehovah, and do good; dwell in the...
