What Happened In Between
Good morning! How's every little thing? Good I hope...GREAT, even. It's nice to be back home. It's been quite the whirlwind of activity since I bid you all adieu a couple of weeks ago. Crazy fun activity, but busy, nonetheless. I was cracking open the ol' computer this morning, thinking about all the things that have happened since we last chatted, and I realized that they've really stacked up without me telling you about them as they happen. I've traveled to my favorite part of Texas with some of my favorite people in the world. We ate incredible food, sat surrounded by some of God's greatest handiwork and had those types of conversations that stay with you for a long time. I've...
Mimmie’s Heart: Lilli’s Letters #8
Today you are four. FOUR. It's not possible that four years have passed since we first looked into each others' eyes. But you are no longer a 6lb. 11 oz. baby, and I have the 39" mark on the inside frame of my pantry door to prove it. I always knew I wanted to be a grandmother, but you, Lilli...you turned my world upside down with your surprising blue eyes, and immediate bond with me, the grandmother who would become your Mimmie. You and I have something that I hope we'll never lose, as I seem to be your "safe place," a blessing I don't take for granted. You love to be at our house, and working the horses with your Aunt Maddie. I see you perfectly relaxed in this place, confident in...
Sometimes You Need to Jump Off the Merry-Go-Round
Have you ever noticed how when you ride a merry-go-round you can't really focus on any one thing, because you're moving too fast, and everything is a blur of color as you go whizzing by? It's fun at first. The ups and downs are kind of exciting, but it's the spinning that gets me after a while. That not being able to focus thing really becomes bothersome, and, in the end, can sort of make you feel unsettled, or downright queasy. My life has been sort of like that these last few weeks. Preparing for career changes, as Kevin retires from management and goes back into the field (and I gear up to manage his office during the first months, to a year, of that transition), gearing up for a...
His Words (for when you’re feeling happy)
Every Sunday around here is for His words instead of mine. Sometimes you just feel happy! Well, there are scriptures for that. Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. ~ Philippians 4:4 ESV Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. ~ John 16:4 ESV A joyful heart is good medicine... ~ Proverbs 17:22 ESV This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. ~ Psalm 118:24 ESV We’re depending on God; he’s everything we need. What’s more, our hearts brim with joy since we’ve taken for our own his holy name. Love us, God, with all you’ve got— that’s what we’re depending on. ~...
The Great and Powerful…Google?
Have you ever considered how many times a day you Google something? Yesterday, I needed to know a substitution for a cooking ingredient, so I Googled it. After a while, I was planting some flowers that didn't have an info stick stuck in the soil. Were they all shade? Full sun? Half and half? I didn't know, so I Googled it. Some time later, I wondered if my outdoor furniture cushions were still being made, so again I went to Google. And those weren't the only times. No. I wondered about an actress's age. Google. I couldn't remember a type of tree I came upon in our yard. Google. Could I make my own wall spackle? Google. And on and on. Truly. If Google were a person, we'd be very...
