On Not Writing A Post

Today's a day when I'm thankful for two little people under my roof, both who struggled to go to sleep last night, and one who woke up early this morning. Today's a day when I'll shut this computer because she's right here, waiting to watch Frozen, and I don't have that opportunity every day. Yes, today's a day I will just be thankful and not write a blog post about it.   "Grandchildren are the crown of the aged..." Proverbs 17:6 ESV

Bill of Goods

I was sitting at a stop light a couple of days ago with Emmie, and the two kids, in their car seats, in the back seat. I glanced to my left, and there was a large church on the corner with a marquee on their sign. You know how some churches will have the week's sermon topic on their sign, or some thought-provoking quote? Well, this is what theirs said: The Christian life yields happiness. What? I actually almost sat through the entire green light trying to comprehend what they were saying. Were they serious? Was it a ploy to get you to come hear more, because what bill of goods were they trying to sell up in that house??? Let me please just set the record straight: The Christian...

Stuff of Dreams

Stuff of Dreams

I'm not sure when this dream began. Now that I think about it, it may have been as early as when I was a girl, and we went to my Uncle Leland's lake house. He had an A-frame, fitted with a stairway that led up to a room tucked into the point of the "A." This room was lined on both sides with twin beds, dormitory-style, and the kids slept up there. Or, it also might've been born when we visited one of The Aunts in Oklahoma, who had bunks built in to the eaves of a room that were complete with curtains, like sleeping berths on a train. Either way, both left an impression on me that, one day, I would provide a special place for children in my own home. Many years later, when my own...

On Looking Up

On Looking Up

This little guy has made a discovery this week. He has begun to notice the world above him. It started during this hammock session with Papa, when he was wrangled into laying down long enough to be directed to the tree above him. He lay there in wonder, watching the sun play through the leaves and taking in the endless patterns. Since then, he's pointed to every tree, and then, while looking up, he's also noticed the sky, throwing his head back so far he's thrown himself backward on more than one occasion. All this looking up has netted him a new perspective indoors, as well. There's light on the ceiling, and fans! Over and over, everywhere he goes, he has started pointed up at each...

Listen

We had a fun family day yesterday. Between both families, we saw lots of people in one big swoop, and ended up at Kevin's mother's house. His sister and her little girl were there, too, much to Lilli's delight. She and Collin played well together, in an extra bedroom their grandmother/great-grandmother has set up as a play area in her house. Then, Maddie brought out the Chinese Checkers to play with Emmie, a childhood favorite they played at both grandparents' houses. When they were done, they left it on the kitchen table, thinking the kids might like to play with it. They were right. Now, Collin has played this game quite a few times. She's four years older than Lilli, so she can...
