Give Yourself a Break. No, Really.

Yesterday, I spoke with an old friend on the phone. It was wonderful to hear her voice and find out what had been happening in her world. Friday's are her day off, and she told me that she struggles with actually giving herself the day to just do nothing, and then immediately feeling guilty about it. I laughed. I think we all do it to a certain extent. I know I do. Actually, I did it just this morning when I started to rise at my usual early hour, but really wanted to roll over and go back to sleep. I was torn between knowing there was really no reason at all that I couldn't sleep in a little on this Saturday morning, and knowing that the TENS of readers that read this blog might be...

See All the People

Remember that little rhyme from when you were a kid? With your hands folded together, and your fingers pointing down inside, you started out... Here is the church Then your index fingers shot straight up... Here is the steeple. Then your thumbs flew out... Open the doors And you wiggled all your fingers that had been hiding inside your hands... See ALL the people! I used to do this all the time when I was little. It actually looked just like the church I attended, with it's big doors at the center front of the building, and it's soaring steeple set against an azure sky. I have beautiful memories of that church, and the colorful cast of characters within its walls. They were very...

Let it Go

No. This is not a post about the theme song from Frozen, although now we're all singing it. I'm sorry. This is actually a post about those skunky German Shepherds from the other day. Remember them? Well, they stayed with us through yesterday, when, much to everyone's dismay, the owners called Maddie. She'd left her number with the area shelters in the event that the owners called, and they finally did, with a perfect description of the dogs. We had invested time, money, elbow grease (it's HARD to get skunk off a dog), and, in the process, love. We were all crazy about them, and after we discovered they weren't chipped, had decided to follow the shelter's lead of a three-day wait...

All in the Family

These lovely ladies are my great aunts, and the big sisters of one very spoiled little boy, my mom's father...my "Pop." He was actually one of a set of twins, but his brother died in infancy, so he was particularly doted on. I've always loved this photo. It looks like a magazine spread to me, but whether they would be advertising clothing, or outdoor furnishings, or cocktails on the lawn, is anyone's guess. Regardless, the composition of the photo just makes me want to crawl on in and wiggle myself into that glider for a nice chat over what appears to be a shaken (not stirred) martini. But what I really want to see are some of the outtakes from this photo session. Because the one...

Remember?

There was a day last summer when I couldn't think of anything to write about. It seemed that my brain had checked out and left me with absolutely nothing. Well, it's happened again. So, to help you remember (and to give you something to read), I'm running this oldie, but goodie, again. Because, well, I got nothing.   Do you remember that old Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George were conspiring to pitch a show to NBC? They talked about different topics for the show, but finally decided it should be a show about nothing. No real point, just random happenings in the lives of the people who would hang out and, well…do nothing.   I’ve been sitting here for about 45 minutes,...
