Welcome…or Not?

It was chilly and rainy out here yesterday. We needed the rain, and it made for a really nice Sunday afternoon, to stay in and be cozy and dry by the fire. We have an apartment on our property that we finished out for the use of whomever is/will run the horse operation out here. Currently, it's our daughter, Maddie, who is an equine therapist, and horse whisperer extraordinaire. She manages the ranch, and all its four-legged occupants, which, sometimes include animals that are not ours. For instance, we had a border collie that showed up out here last fall, and after a couple of days, she located the owner. Just last week, there was an errant Black Angus heifer that stayed for a...

He seemed delighted I was there whenever he happened to stop what he was doing long enough to catch a glance of the screen. Then Lilli heard my voice. She commandeered the device, turned the camera around and gave me a (very bumpy and somewhat nauseating)...

All Things New

I woke up with that title announcing itself to me in repetitive fashion. All things new...all things new...all things new... It's from a scripture found in the book of Revelation, a proclamation that the old order of things has passed, an announcement of hope. And what is more hopeful than something new? You might argue that sometimes the something new is not wanted, like an illness, for instance, or a pay-cut, or the loss of the job altogether. Maybe you've just learned of the destructive path of your child, or your hand shakes as you dial the number to hospice for the first time, your beloved parent fading fast in the bed beyond. And certainly, you'd be right. This type of new is...
