Good Guy

Lilli has had a stomach bug the last couple of days. Her little system has staged a revolt the likes of which she's never experienced, and, as she inches closer to 4 (say it ain't so!), she has a lot to say about it. The main topic (of course) centers around food. She does understand that if she eats the wrong things it sends her straight to the bathroom, which, at first, was not a problem because she wasn't hungry. But last night, as things were dying down and she was feeling a little better, she wanted some dinner. The very few, bland options that her mother was offering weren't doing it for her. ...but I don't WANT toast! Take me to Mimmie's house! She'll fix my belly AND feed me...

Not-So-Hidden Beauty

On the heels of writing yesterday's post about waiting, I received an email. It was from our attorney, regarding a response from the IRS on our 501(c)3. For those of you who don't know (and those who do, who may have been wondering), we moved out to the country almost exactly two years ago to start a therapeutic riding non-profit. We built our facility, and applied for federal approval 17 months ago. SEVENTEEN MONTHS. We were expecting something long before now, having promoted openings that had to be cancelled, and stop further improvements because we couldn't, in good conscience, raise money, due to lack of ability to guarantee tax benefit. So, we've just been silent about it...

Waiting Room

Our daughter, Maddie, went to dinner over the weekend with friends. She came over yesterday, and told us all about it, as the three of us had been to this particular restaurant before and had a really good experience. Completely different, apparently, from the one she encountered this time around. When they got there, they were asked to wait, even though there were several empty tables. At first, they thought it was due to a shortage of wait-staff, but then they were told that those were tables being held for reservations. Understanding the situation, and since they didn't have one, they settled in for what they hoped would be a reasonable wait. People came and went. Dinners were...

His Words

Every Sunday around here, it's about His Words, alone (and I'm including the entire chapter because we all need to read EVERY WORD). Read. Ponder. Absorb...LIVE. The Solution Is Life on God’s Terms (Romans 8 - The Message) With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death. God went for the jugular when he sent his own Son. He didn’t deal with the problem...

Traveling Companions

What is it about old friends? There is an extraordinary comfort found in the presence of those with whom you've walked a significant portion of life's road, who've cheered you on when you reach the desired destinations, and offered strength and support when you've hit potholes, and suffered long detours, instead. I thought about all those times, last night, as I sat, in the sweet familiarity of the kitchen of our friends of 28 years, Mike and Janie. We've all watched each other change and grow, they being just far enough ahead of us to be the finest mentors. Here, the morning after great food and more laughter than I've enjoyed in a good long while, I'm heading back home from the...
