Take This Job and…

...be thankful for it. I know. It's a weird way to start off a post, especially when I haven't written a thing for a week. Really, I should be asking you how your Christmas was, and telling you how much I missed you. We should really be talking about what everyone's doing for New Year's, and dreaming together about how we will fill the blank page of 2014. But not today. Today I feel like I need to discuss something else. Our office was open both Thursday and Friday this week, and we weren't alone. Most businesses in our building were open, and downtown was bustling like a normal business week. I understand that people weren't that excited to be at work the day after Christmas....

Now Hear This

I'm going to do something I haven't done since November of 2012. I'm going to take a little break from daily posts, but just for this week, picking back up next Saturday, the 28th. And, who knows, I might pop in on Christmas day because I might not be able to stand it. Just keepin' it real. 😉 Sometimes you just need a break to gain some clarity, or focus on your family, or just rest. It seems that Christmas week is a good time to do all three. Maybe you need a break, too, to do the same. Join me, won't you? I'll catch you on the other side. Have a beautiful, blessed Christmas, and keep your eyes wide open for everyday blessings. They're especially prevalent this time of year!...

What We Have

I'm sitting here in the light of the Christmas tree, thinking about how much I'll miss writing here in the mornings, when it's time to take it down. I really don't tire of the tree. I do tire of all the rest of it, after a while, but the tree with it's lovely glow in the darkness is calming to me. Nostalgic. Our first Christmas as a married couple, Kevin told me he knew just where to get a tree and would bring one home after class. We were married in the middle of college, and lived in what was then called "married housing." Little did I know that, in an effort to save money, he had spotted a tree in the wild, and decided he would just go cut it down and bring it home. When he got...

Red and Green…and White and Blue

I've made it pretty clear how much I love Christmas music. I've been playing the heck out of my vinyl since getting that turntable at the beginning of the season, and rediscovering some less popular ones that haven't been heard (at least by me) since the Christmases of my childhood. I remember, when I was little, thinking how funny it was that there was a Christmas song about palm trees swaying. Mele Kalikimaka was recorded by Bing Crosby on my favorite of his seasonal albums, and I learned every word. Now, as I've been listening to other albums, I realized that it wasn't the only one on this topic. There is also Christmas Island. It hit me all at once, like a blow to the head, that...

And It Was So

I'm going to do something I don't usually do. I'm going to rerun a piece from around this time last year, because I pulled it up while looking for something else, and felt strongly that someone might need to hear the truths tucked in these words. So, if this is for you today, please rest in it.   I started reading through the Chronological Bible yesterday (if you didn’t know, the Bible isn’t laid out chronologically, so reading through it in a timeline fashion can really help put the whole of it in perspective and help you understand how it fit within world historical events). Of course, I started in Genesis, because that’s the beginning, no matter how you slice it. I was...
