I, just this second, saw the following video on Facebook. It’s an acoustic mash-up cover of two Taylor Swift songs. Take a listen (even if you’re not a Taylor fan – it won’t hurt, I promise), then I’ll meet you on the other side.
Beautiful, isn’t it? Two completely different songs. Two completely different voices. One great piece of music.
And you know what was the first thing I thought of as I listened?
Marriage.
Two people show up at the altar. They have different voices, sing different songs. Early on, when they try to sing together, it’s not always harmonious. Sometimes the notes really clash into some crazy minor cord, or maybe their timing isn’t in sync, as they sing at differing tempos. But little by little, if they are truly listening, they start to learn the nuances of the others’ song. They begin to get the beat down, and fall into step. They begin to hear the beauty in the other melody.
After years of singing their songs, they wake up one day and realize that they are harmonizing, one sometimes singing backup to the others’ song, but more, when they sing their individual songs at the same time, they no longer clash, but work together somehow in a marvelous, magical mash-up.
And it’s beautiful.
Two completely different songs.
Two completely different voices.
One great piece of music.
Therefore a man leaves his father and mother and embraces his wife. They become one flesh. ~ Genesis 2:24 MSG
And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. ~ Colossians 3:14 ESV
Happy New Year Melinda!
I too fell in love with this mash up of TS songs
And love your comparison to marriage.
So true & beautiful – Just as our Lord planned it
Hope one (or more) of your grandchildren will use this in their wedding vows…
