I was blessed to get yesterday off and spend the day inside my warm house, decking its halls for an early Christmas with my immediate family, followed by a packed season of business and extended family festivities. As the winds literally howled outside, and the moisture froze on the branches like fine jewelry, I pulled out ornaments made by my children and grandchildren. I marveled as I hung the handiwork of old friends and remembered the fun occasions of their receipt. Stew simmered in the crock pot, filling the house with a warmth all its own, and Bing added his two cents for good measure.

Looking out on the cold, gray sky and the grasses frozen in their blown-over state, I found myself thanking God, all day long, for the gift of respite from the crazy winds of life. There are no real crises coming in on those winds right now, but they are blustering with busyness and long lists. It’s a blessing to have a break to remember the important things, seen so much more clearly out of the wind.

Is it windy where you are? Try tucking into the folds of His robe for a while. Out of the gale, you’ll find a warmth you may have forgotten, and the clarity you really crave.

How precious is your unfailing love, O God!
    All humanity finds shelter
in the shadow of your wings.” Psalms 36:7 NLT

He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” Psalms 91:4 NLT
