Socialized Health Care is coming back to the forefront of the news, as President Obama and Senator Ted Kennedy are pushing to get their plan signed before August. According to Grassfire.org, “This Obama-Kennedy healthcare plan imposes $1.5 trillion in new taxes and forces Americans to “hand over” their health care decisions to politicians and bureaucrats. This nationalization of our health care system will cripple businesses and cause a massive increase in government control over our lives.” What might this mean on the pro-life front?

Interestingly enough, Time Magazine put out an article entitled, “Could Abortion Coverage Sink Health-Care Reform?” Here’s an excerpt:

The Hyde Amendment, passed by the House on Sept., 30, 1976, forbade Medicaid — a program for poor people, jointly administered by Washington and the states, which had, up till then, paid for about 300,000 abortions a year — from using any federal money to pay for the procedure. All but 17 states followed suit, banning use of their own funds as well; with a few modifications, the ban has stood up ever since.

The prospect of sweeping health reform, however, has reopened the issue. While current versions of the legislation do not address the abortion issue at all, late last month, 19 antiabortion Democrats in the House sent a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, warning that they “cannot support any health-care-reform proposal unless it explicitly excludes abortion from the scope of any government-defined or subsidized health-insurance plan.”

Nineteen anti-abortion Democrats?? Friends, that’s nothing but God right there!

…Choose life so that you and your children will live. And love God, your God, listening obediently to him, firmly embracing him. Deuteronomy 30:19-20 MSG

Father God, we come to You today – many believers, one voice – to stand for life. Father we PRAISE YOU for the work You’ve already accomplished through those on both sides of the aisle who take a stand for the unborn. And Lord, we give You ALL THE GLORY in advance for what is yet to come. We lift up President Obama, Senator Kennedy, and all those decision makers who are moving toward radical Health-Care reform and pray that You would pour Your wisdom over this vote so that the best solution for the most people is the outcome. And, Father, as always, we pray that You would shine Your light onto and through the platform for the unborn so that these precious children are protected. Believing You will change one heart for many, we pray in the MIGHTY, LIFE-GIVING NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, Amen.
