Patriot

I'm sitting in a hotel room in Washington, D.C., as I write this. Here for my cousin, Brigadier General J.B. Burton's, military retirement, I watched as his 31 year career with the Army was honored. He has had 18 posts, and 9 deployments, including command of Dagger Brigade 1st Infantry Division, and the 20th CBRNE, the Army's premier command combating the threats from chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives. His wife, Cathy, and son, Austin, have moved and moved and moved, she being tireless in her efforts to support the military families of the thousands of troops under his command, and he having grown up often separated from his dad. The ceremony was held at...

Entitled

My husband, who runs a life insurance and financial services office, was working at his desk, when one of his managers walked in. "Can you break away for a minute?" he asked. "I just need you to hear something." So, Kevin followed him out, and into one of their interview rooms. Before them sat a young man, fresh out of college. His manager had been conducting an initial interview for entry-level insurance sales, and now said to the fellow, "This is our Managing Partner, Mr. Garman. Can you tell him what you were telling me?" Puffing up a bit in his chair, he responded with the following: "Sure. As I was telling Mr. *Smith, here, I have a list of demands of any company I decide to...

Laugh

I had a day off yesterday and I was a woman on a mission. I'm supposed to leave town tomorrow, and will be with the kids today, so my list was long and detailed. With singular focus to each item as it was ticked off, I was shocked a little when my phone rang. It was one of my best girls, Mary. Mary, with whom I've hit the road and sailed the high seas, and to whom I've flown the friendly skies to meet time and again for fun adventures. Mary who tells it like it is. Mary, who makes me LAUGH. I put on my head piece so I could continue doing my chores and talk at the same time, and we caught up. You see, it's been a while since we actually got in a phone conversation. Between her crazy...

Why God?

Dr. Ravi Zacharias is an Indian-born, Canadian-American Christian apologist, and defender of traditional evangelicalism. He has spoken all over the world for over 43 years, and has been referred to as the "greatest apologist of our time," by Chuck Colson and others. I had plans to write about something else this morning, but I saw this video and knew that it needed to take precedence. Whatever time you would normally take reading my post, please devote it to watching this, especially if you've ever wondered why God doesn't stop heinous acts every single time.

Think Big

I've had the kids all weekend, while Emmie's been out of town, and I say "I" because I whisked them away from our house and back to their own when Brody started running fever, followed very quickly by his sister. Kevin is starting a new position this week and I was hoping to spare him whatever bug was rearing it's ugly head. Yesterday, while Brody slept, and after laying down herself for a while, Lilli and I played several games of Candy Land, then did some coloring. It was during her work on some butterflies, and mine on a peacock, that I struck up a conversation on what she wanted to be when she grew up. "So, Lilli, I haven't asked you this in a long time. What do you think you...
